GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INTSTALLING HD HITCH

MOUNTING HITCH

The HD Hitch is designed with a Safety Bolt to eliminate accidental tongue removal when hitching up. If the tongue is not assembled into Hitch, remove the Safety Bolt and insert the tongue into Hitch. Reinsert the 1/2" x 3" Safety Bolt with Lock Nut. Bolt the Hitch to the center of your implement. Use U-bolts with flat washers and lock washers on top holes.

When hitching up, the telescoping tongue can be released by pulling up on the latch handle. After hitching to nurse tank or other equipment, back up ;the tractor to "lock" tongue back into place. Inspect the tongue Flapper (30741) hitch pin hole for wear and replace when necessary.

Hitch Extensions are needed to mount to the Hitch when there is some obstruction in the way when installing.

MOUNTING HITCH EXTENSIONS

Bolt the Extensions to the hitch using 5/8" x 2" bolts. Use flat washers and locks on slotted holes, lock washers on top holes. Bolt the total assembly to your implement using the U-bolts.

MOUNTING BREAKAWAY COUPLER

Note: Use a lead-based sealing compound or teflon tape on all steel pipe fittings.

The breakaway coupler is a safety device to prevent the escape of ammonia in the event of a hitch failure. It is NOT to be used as a disconnect.

Install coupler bracket onto hitch as shown at right. Use both 1/2" x 1 1/4" x 1" hex bushing (not supplied). Note: Refer to coupler manufacturer's instructions for operation.

CAUTION--The coupler bracket must be free to pivot. The transfer hose must have sufficient clearance to swing and should never be kinked or in a bind.

Thoroughly clean and inspect coupling before use each season. Completely replace coupling when oxidation is first seen or after 3 year from new installation.

MOUNTING METERS

Install the Continental Meter onto the Hitch meter plate using the spacer as shown. The spacer is used to elevate the meter to have room to tighten the meter union nut. Attach by using the 5/16" x 1/2" bolts with flat and lock washers.

Do not use a sealing compounding or teflon tape on the union nut. ( Four washers on each bolt can be used instead of the meter spacer).

Next install a 1" high pressure (#80) pipe coupling and the transfer hose to the inlet (union) side of the meter.

NOTE: USE A LEAD-BASED SEALING COMPOUND OR TEFLON TAPE ON ALL STEEL PIPE FITTINGS (EXCEPT THE UNION NUT)

MOUNTING PRESSURE GAUGE

Install the Pressure Gauge as shown in illustrations below. Use all the parts as required.

CAUTION--It is important that the gauge is mounted on the OUTSIDE OF THE TRACTOR CAB in case of leakage or failure.

Note: NH3 hoses from the meter/manifold to the knives must be of equal length (within 3 feet) for equal distribution.
